UP TO six councils have been spared from the NSW government’s controversial amalgamations plan.
Only 19 of the 35 proposed mergers will go ahead after the Baird government was forced to scrap some proposals amid growing political and community opposition.
Nine planned council unifications are also on hold due to ongoing legal action.
The councils to merge have now been sacked, with administrators brought in to run them until elections in September next year.
