CRAZED motorist caused terror on a suburban Sydney street yesterday when he menacingly revved a chainsaw during a vicious road rage brawl that was caught on film during peak hour.
The bizarre altercation, seemingly sparked by the innocent actions of another motorist who had edged his vehicle into traffic, occurred on the busy Horsley Drive at Fairfield about 5pm.
Dashcam footage captured the moment a shirtless man sprinted up to a white Jeep that was turning into traffic before throwing a punch at the driver through the open window.
The stunned driver, a 34-year-old man, leapt out of his car and the pair began to brawl on the roadway.
Two other men, tradies wearing hi-vis shirts, got out of a nearby car to help the driver. The three men eventually subdued the shirtless man and pinned him to the ground before letting him up and watching him return to his car.
“After that they let him loose, so he walked back to his car and we thought everything was done,” witness John Melal said.
But it was far from over, with the man returning to his ute to grab a chainsaw from the rear tray.
Mobile phone footage showed the man revving the chainsaw as he walked back towards the Jeep, which then drove off, as onlookers screamed.
“That’s crazy, strange, I never see this, I only see this in movies,” Mr Melal said.
The shirtless man then retreated to his own vehicle, swearing, before noticing he was being filmed.
“Put your f ... ing phone down,” he said to the person behind the camera as he revved the chainsaw.
“Stop recording.”
A NSW Police spokeswoman said detectives were investigating.
“This type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community under any circumstances,” she said.
