The pups were cute and there was plenty of them, but the com-paw-tition was fierce and we had a ruff time trying to decide on our finalists.

Contending canines were judged on their talent, charisma, deportment and personality (but mostly cuteness) in deciding which pooch takes out top dog.

Now our readers have called the shot, by voting on which pooch should be crowned the cutest dog in NSW.

Now without further ado, the coveted title of NSW’s cutest dog goes to...

Sushi, a six-year-old pomeranian from Pemulwuy in Sydney’s west.

Just like her namesake, Sushi is small, fluffy and Instagrammable. Weighing in at 1.8 kilograms, she might be bigger than your average California roll but she’s still one pint sized pup.

According to her owner, Sushi steals the heart of everyone she meets which probably explains why she has more Instagram followers than most people.

“She’s a sweetheart, so chill and calm,” said owner Kylie, who is accompanied by her tiny pet almost everywhere, often travelling in a purpose-designed handbag.

“She’s so little, the batteries don’t last long, so often she has to be carried
in the handbag,” Kylie said.

“Given the popularity and support she has I’m very excited that she’s won. Maybe I’m a little biased but I say of course she’s won, she’s very, very adorable.”

Due recognition also goes to the runner-up pups, Murphy and Zeus.

In second place, we have one-year-old Murphy the Havanese.

Murphy, a one-year-old Havanese from Manly on the northern beaches, took second place.

According to his owner Madeline, Mr Murphy is an incredibly cheeky and very naughty young pup who spends nearly every waking moment trying to steal socks from his household.

He was followed by Zeus the golden cocker spaniel from Gymea Bay, who is said to be a hit at his local dog park.

Owner Claire said her pet was “the absolute light of our life and the most happy, yet stubborn, companion”.
