Who are Sydney’s most powerful people in 2021?

Who runs this town has never been more important after COVID delivered seismic shocks to Sydney’s major players. Here are the most powerful people in 2021.

Ben English, Editor of The Daily Telegraph introduces Sydney's Power 100

Power by its nature is dynamic.

It flows from place to place and never more so than after the most shocking and unpredictable year of most of our lives.

The pandemic has foisted power on some while snatching it cruelly from others, making The Daily Telegraph’s third annual Power 100 list an exciting one to compile.

As the nation’s first city, Sydney is the seat of power for many – most notably our Shire-based Prime Minister.

But power is not always about politics or money. It can be more subtle and is exerted in every industry and sector.

From business leaders to politicians and celebrities, The Daily Telegraph’s Power 100 list reveals who really runs Sydney in 2021.
From business leaders to politicians and celebrities, The Daily Telegraph’s Power 100 list reveals who really runs Sydney in 2021.

The Power 100 is our snapshot of who is powerful in this town at a certain point in time each year.

It is way of creating a balance sheet of the people who really make things happen in this city — and often beyond.

It is also a list of the people to watch in 2021.

Many of those featured in last year’s list have fallen off the charts having lost their relevance in this post-pandemic world.

New entrants have taken their place largely thanks to their success in battling the multiple threats that COVID -19 has imposed.

Others still have moved up and down the rankings as their standing in Sydney has shifted, fortunes have been gained or lost or new trends and products have gained traction with the city’s population.

The Daily Telegraph’s Power 100 list is published on March 5 in print and online.
