Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has shown off his dancing skills at the Pacific Islands Forum. How does he rate?

Albo busts some moves in the Cook Islands

If there was one tradition Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was hoping to avoid on his visit to the Pacific Islands Forum, it was the dreaded dance.

Predecessor Bill Shorten was captured in an unforgettable video swaying to traditional music with little rhythm and an extravagant headband during a visit to Kiribati in 2019.

Before him, Prime Minister Julia Gillard was thrown on a throne and carried by locals on her visit to the PIF.

Mr Albanese too had to get up and give the photographers a funny photo-op and he delivered.

At the serene island of Aitutaki, dressed in a green shirt to represent the island and wearing a flower garland around his neck, Albo got jiggy with it to drum music before being presented with a gift.

His attempt to sit back down was brushed off by enthusiastic attendees who circled him as he danced again, swaying from side to side with his arms in the air.

The Confidential verdict is that Mr Albanese once again did much better than Mr Shorten, beating him in the dancing stakes.
