A Victorian man allegedly travelled to Sydney on numerous occasions to have sex with a 14-year-old girl after arranging the liaisons via social media.

On Saturday, the 22-year-old had again allegedly arranged to meet the girl at a Sydney hotel — but this time, police were waiting for him.

Jaiden Pamintuan was arrested by specialist police inside a Chatswood hotel room at 10pm on Saturday.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad had been tipped off that the man, from Derrimut in Melbourne, had allegedly travelled to Sydney on multiple occasions to engage in the “sexual relationship” with the teenager.

“Police will allege that on five separate occasions the man arranged via social media to meet the girl at a hotel in Chatswood and engage in sexual activities with her” police said in a media statement.

The Victorian man has been refused bail.

Court documents list a total of 18 charges against Pamintuan. All of the alleged offences occurred in either mid-July or early this month at either Willoughby or Chatswood, the documents state.

Some of the alleged offences took place between 10am and midday, while the majority of the interactions were in the early evening. Pamintuan was charged with 11 counts of sexually touching a child aged 10 to 16-years-old on July 12, 14 and 15 as well as December 4 and 6.

He was also charged with two counts of sexual acts with a child on July 12.

The most serious charges against Pamintuan, five counts of sexual intercourse with a child, are alleged to have occurred just last Thursday and Friday.

Each of those five counts carries a maximum 10 years in prison if convicted.

Sources say police are still working to investigate if there are other people who can assist them with the investigation.

Pamintuan’s case was mentioned briefly in Parramatta bail court on Sunday, where he did not apply for release and bail was formally refused.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Hornsby Local Court on Wednesday.

His matter will also be heard again next week when police will apply for an apprehended violence order against him. Police called for anyone with information to contact them or CrimeStoppers.
