THE politician who drove the UK out of Europe is coming to tell Australians to “take back” the nation.
On a five-date lecture tour “Mr Brexit” Nigel Farage will urge Aussies to challenge the political elite — so often accused of being out of touch with ordinary people — and “take back their democracy and, ultimately, their country”.
Even before he lands on our shores, the outspoken, anti-Establishment Mr Farage has urged Australians to “stand up and be counted”.
The man who is widely credited with bringing about Brexit — the UK’s impending withdrawal from the European Union which has plunged both the UK and the EU into an unprecedented period of uncertainty and division — will arrive here in September.
In a piece of unfortunate timetabling, Mr Farage will announce the tour today during National Reconciliation Week.
“Never in the history of Western civilisation has the fight for democracy, individual liberties and free speech been more important,” Mr Farage said ahead of his tour.
“A recent Australian poll showed that two-thirds of Australians believe that their way of life, as they know it, is under threat.
“So I come to you from the UK with a message of hope and optimism — that if the man or woman in the street, the average Joe or Jane, is prepared to stand up and be counted, and push back against the political elite and the media establishment, they can take back their democracy and, ultimately, their country.”

His words echo some of the most virulent elements of the 2016 Brexit campaign, which was accused of stoking divisive, often violent, anti-immigration feeling in the UK.
Mr Farage, who is also famous for his love of beer and smoking and who counts US President Donald Trump as a friend, spearheaded the often-bitter Brexit campaign.
At a time when anti-immigration One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is experiencing a resurgence in popularity and the immigration debate is red-hot, Mr Farage expects to fill venues.
A VIP ticket with a backstage pass to an after-show champagne party with Mr Farage will cost $495.
He is also charging $295 for a one-on-one meeting, VIP ticket and a photograph.
