Two men seriously injured after stabbing in Chippendale

Two men were repeatedly stabbed during a violent home invasion at a townhouse in Chippendale today. Police have revealed the incident was “targeted” and are looking for two other men who are known to the victims.

A personal feud is thought to be behind a violent home invasion in Sydney that has left two housemates with serious stab wounds.

At least two men in hooded jumpers turned up at a terrace home on Shepherd St in Chippendale about 8.40am on Saturday.

Neighbours heard men yelling and swearing before someone screamed “help, help”.

A 20-year-old was stabbed in the face and arms inside the home before he stumbled out onto the street.

A witness described his horrific injuries and said a neighbour eating breakfast on his balcony ran out with towels to stop the victim’s bleeding.

“There were people shouting at each other, like ‘hey, hey, hey’,” the witness said.

“We heard someone say call the cops.”

When police and paramedics rushed to the scene, they found a 25-year-old man at the back of the house with stab wounds to his head, back and torso.

He was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition and underwent emergency surgery.

Neighbours said five or six Asian students, who had never caused trouble, lived in the house.

“We heard some noises and some groans and saw some people leaving,” neighbour Jim McIlroy said.

“After that police came in great force.”

His wife said they could hear swearing through the walls before a loud crash that sounded like it came from the kitchen.

The couple, who have lived in the area for decades, saw two men flee the scene down a nearby street.

They were last seen running down Daniels St towards Buckland St. Police believe the attack was targeted and motivated by a “personal issue” but wouldn’t elaborate on what that was.

“The information we have at the moment is we believe the offenders that we are seeking and the victims are known to each other in some respect,” Redfern police Detective Acting Inspector Michael Egan said.

“It is a targeted attack, it’s not a random attack and that’s the lines of inquiry we are establishing.

“A number of people in the house, we are speaking to at the moment.

“As you can understand it was a chaotic scene upon our arrival.”

The crime scene around Shepherd St is wide spread and police have spent much of the day examining items, like clothing, found on neighbouring streets.

It is understood they also located a kitchen knife in a nearby fountain but it is unclear if it is linked to the attack.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch with officers.

Anyone with information should contact Redfern Police Station on (02) 8303 5199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
