Two men dead, one missing in wild surf north of Coffs Harbour

Two men have drowned and a third man remains missing feared dead after six people got into trouble at a beach north of Coffs Harbour on Monday. The group, including three children, were overwhelmed by the conditions while swimming at Moonee Beach.

Two men have drowned and a third man remains missing feared dead after six people got into trouble at a beach north of Coffs Harbour yesterday.

The group, including three children, were swimming at Moonee Beach at 6.15pm when they became overwhelmed by the conditions.

Two men, aged 35 and 45, were taken out of the water but were unable to be revived. A third man, 28, remains missing.

Two girls, aged 15 and 17, and a 15-year-old boy, were also rescued.

The children were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for observation last night.

All six are believed to be known to each other and from Western Sydney.

A search operation was launched for the missing man however hopes remain slim of him being found alive.

The search was suspended due to bad light and surf conditions last night but it will resume at first light today.

Coffs/Clarence Police are investigating and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
