Dally M accused allegedly told mates Bellamy ‘good chance to win’

One of the men charged over the Dally M betting scandal allegedly gave information to the NRL Integrity Unit after he was accused of telling a group of mates at the pub “Bellamy was a good chance to win the Coach of the Year”.

Police will allege Wilson placed two $500 bets on Melbourne Storm Craig Bellamy through his own Sportsbet account, winning a total of $1975.

Ben Trevisiol allegedly placed two bets of $200 and $286 for winnings of $950.

Stat Edge, run by the two men, held a contract with the NRL to allow Dally M judges to enter votes into a digital system.

So when the NRL Integrity Unit contacted Wilson on October 9 – a week after the awards – saying bookmakers had flagged suspicious betting, police allege Wilson made some disclosures.

Wilson and Trevisiol were each charged today with use inside information to bet on event and possess inside information and communicate to other to bet on event.

Police announced today investigators were turning their attention to those who may have bet larger sums after hearing Bellamy was the winner.

“The associates of Wilson and Trevisiol bet in a manner completely inconsistent with their previous wagering habits,” police will allege.

“Some associates bet and attempted to bet significantly higher than their usual wagers.

“Some associates attempted to bet thousands of dollars on Bellamy.”

“Bookmakers are understandable wary of accepting wagers on pre-determined betting markets.

“Some of the accounts used by associates of Wilson and Trevisiol had in some instances lay dormant for considerable periods of time.”

Police will allege some of the associates opened new accounts, and “immediately” funded them to bet on Bellamy.

Wilson and Trevisiol are due to front Downing Centre Local Court on August 20.
