‘Terrifying scene’: Child killed in serious M5 crash
A truck driver involved in a horror, multi-car crash on the M5 at Riverwood which left a 10-year-old boy dead has been charged.

A truck driver has been charged over a horror multi-vehicle pile up on the M5 at Riverwood which left a 10-year-old boy dead.
The boy died at the scene after a truck collided with three cars at 8.20am on Wednesday, just east of Belmore Rd.
Police said the truck was travelling east when it rear-ended a Mazda before partially travelling over the top of the car, killing the boy who was sitting in the back.
His 13-year-old sister who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered head and rib injuries and is stable at Sydney Children's Hospital.
Their mother, the driver of the Mazda, suffered minor injuries and was briefly treated in hospital. Two women driving separate cars also suffered minor injuries.
The 26-year-old truck driver was taken to Bankstown Police Station and questioned before being charged overnight with a string of offences including dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
He was refused bail to appear in court today.
NSW Ambulance acting Superintendent Gavin Wood said veteran paramedics were shocked by the accident.
“On arrival, we were confronted by quite a terrifying scene involving four persons,” he said.
“Multiple persons were trapped. That is quite complex and, when you’re dealing with children, it makes it a very complex case as well.”
Traffic and Highway Patrol acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Glinn said crash investigators seized a mobile phone from the truck.
“Police have taken possession of a mobile phone that was in the heavy vehicle and that will be subject to forensic analysis in the coming days.”
