A man who allegedly broke into a western Sydney home with a woman has been remanded in custody.
Dural man Darren Chalmers, 58, faced Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday to make a bid for freedom after he and a 45-year-old woman allegedly broke into a Merrylands home on Yeend St on Friday morning and stole cash and jewellery - all while the people living there were home.
Chalmers and his co-accused left the home before police arrived, but were later arrested and charged after a search by PolAir and the Dog Unit.
Chalmers was taken to Granville Police Station, while the woman was taken to Westmead Hospital and remains under police guard.
She has not yet been charged.
Chalmers was charged with breaking and entering in company to steal over the alleged incident at Merrylands, as well as four other, unrelated, charges of breaking and entering at shops and homes across Dural and Middle Dural on October 29 and November 9.
He has not entered any pleas.
He was denied bail by Magistrate Bruce Williams for fears of committing serious offences and to protect the safety of others in the community.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to next face court in Parramatta on November 25.
