The owner of a long-running Tweed Shire “ocean adventure” business says he is losing hope more than $20,000 of stolen water sports equipment will ever be returned.
Tim Jack Adams of Watersports Guru at Kingscliff has been working hard to get the business operating smoothly again after his trailer was snatched about 3.30am on July 20.
CCTV footage shows the trailer was hitched to a 1990s white Toyota HiLux.
The trailer was found covered up on Leda Dr, Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast on August 1 and was returned to Mr Adams, without equipment.
Watersports Guru has been offering experiences like boat tours, paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkelling in the region for more than 14 years and is popular with tourists.
Numerous kayaks, paddles and stand-up paddle boards worth about $20,000 remain missing.
“It’s been two weeks now and no equipment has shown up so I don’t really have much hope for that,” Mr Adams said.
He said it has been difficult to operate at “half sail” until he can replace the stolen goods.
“It’s hard because not as many staff get to work when you’ve only got half of the equipment, which is a bit of a blow,” he said.
“But thank god it wasn’t summer. It would have definitely hurt a lot more.
“I have to try and raise some funds to replenish all of the lost stock so we’d love to get it up and running before the next school holidays.
“It’s been a couple of hard years with Covid and the floods.”
Casuarina’s Belinda Mirana set up a GoFundMe page to help get the well-known local business back in good shape and it has raised more than $8000.
“Thank you to everyone that’s supported us and is helping us with the GoFundMe it really does warm your heart,” Mr Adams said.
“After almost 15 years now of running Watersports Guru it’s so nice to feel being valued and that we still belong in the community and are doing the best that we possibly can.
“As a small business, no one has to donate to us it’s just out of the kindness of their own hearts that they are.”
NSW Police confirmed investigations were ongoing and they were working alongside Queensland Police.
