Tributes are flowing for a Tweed teenager who died after a horrific car crash on a winding back road near the Queensland-New South Wales border as his heartbroken family prepare for his funeral.

Ben Goodall, 17, suffered critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash on Clothiers Creek Rd at Bogangar, near the Queensland-New South Wales border, on Saturday, September 21.

Police found Ben’s car had crashed into a tree.

He was treated by paramedics and rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Ben tragically died in hospital as a result of his injuries the following Thursday, NSW Police revealed in a statement.

On Monday, Ben’s grief-stricken mother Nicole posted a funeral notice for her son.

“In loving memory of Ben Goodall. Please join Jason, Nicole and Sam for the funeral which will be held at St Anthony’s Church, Kingscliff, on Friday October 4,” the notice read.

“We would also appreciate everyone joining us at the Cudgen Surf Club after the service.”

Ben, who was a Year 12 student at St Joseph’s College in Banora Point, was commemorated in a newsletter by his former primary school teachers and principal at St Anthony’s Primary School in Kingscliff.

“We were very saddened to receive the news yesterday that one of our ex-students, Ben Goodall, did not survive the injuries he sustained in a car accident at the weekend,” the school wrote.

“Ben was in Year 12 at St Joseph’s College. It is a tough time for that class as they had their graduation mass and ceremonies this week.

“We offer the college and particularly Year 12 our thoughts and prayers as they deal with their grief and loss.

“We offer our condolences to Ben’s family at this sad and difficult time and assure them of our continued caring thoughts and prayers.

“Many of our teachers taught Ben and this morning we gathered as a staff for some prayer and reflection. May he rest in peace.”

In the wake of Ben’s tragic death, tributes flooded social media, with many remembering the teen as having a huge impact on his classmates.

Anne Marie Biffin wrote on Facebook: “I’m so very sorry for your loss of your beautiful Ben. You have been in my heart and thoughts all week Nicole, Jason and Sam. I didn’t get to meet Ben but he has been an enormous influence on my 16-year-old son. He will never be forgotten … My heart breaks for you all xx.”

Melinda Pringle Shelley added: “My deepest condolences for you and your family. Ben’s memory will live on through his friends at St Joseph’s College.”

Mark Fitt wrote: “Our son knew and loved Ben and has only fun and lovely school stories of your son. You have all been in our thoughts and thank you for giving these kids a chance to formally farewell their mate – your boy. Rest Easy Ben.”

Louise McLaughlin added: “Ben was a lovely young man and such a tragic loss.”

Melinda Houben wrote: “Ben was truly valued by his mates at school and made an impact on their lives that they will always remember.”

Nicole Jennings added: “Ben was a dear friend of our son and he made such a positive impact on all who knew him.”

Maxine Wilcox wrote: “Ben’s kindness and respect earned him the admiration of his SJC peers. ️”

Ben’s funeral will be held on Friday at St Anthony’s Church at Kingscliff from 11am.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation.
