The business name might be say Selfish, but the act of kindness from the owner was anything but that.
Residents stuck for in traffic for hours trying to cross the New South Wales Queensland border were heart warmed by a free feed from Selfish Fish n Chips owner Adrian Wright.
Jackie Curry was one of the people stuck in the chaos for three-and-a-half hours on August 16 after she drove from Coolangatta to Tweed Heads South for a medical appointment.
“The gesture to me showed that there is still good in this hard time,” Ms Curry said.
“This man went out of his way to help people while asking nothing in return.
“We were stuck in border traffic for 3.5 hours and Selfish allowed us to use their rest rooms and provided us some very tasty lunch.”
She was among many who police questioned about the legitimacy of their border crossing, but she was let through after showing a dated prescription.
“It was really heartwarming seeing this man do this,” she said.
“He was doing it for hours and gave one to each person in the cars.”
In a statement on Facebook, Mr Wright said they were “blown away” by the support they had received for handing out fish and chips at the border.
“A big thank you to each and every one of you,” the post read.
“In our wildest dreams we would never have thought that social media has so much power (even though our adult children tell us often).
“We just wanted to do something to make people’s day a little better and looks like we accomplished just that by reading so many warming heartfelt comments from so many.
“Thanks again stay safe and stay home for a while.”
Selfish Fish N Chips is located on Wharf St, close to the Griffith St border check point.
