Each week numerous people plead guilty to a range of drink driving offences. Here are some who were in Tweed Heads Local Court this week.

Kylie Anne Mansbridge

Robina woman Kylie Anne Mansbridge was caught on May 7 on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads at a stationary breath test station at 9.25pm.

She returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.111.

She told police between midday and 9.15pm she’d drunk six stubbies of beer.

Defence lawyer Carl Edwards said Mansbridge had intended on staying at a friend’s home that night but felt unwell and decided to jump in her car.

Mansbridge, 48, pleaded guilty to mid range drink driving and was sentenced to a 12-month community correction order.

She was disqualified from driving for three months and ordered to use an interlock for 12 months.

Lalita Sakhi Benson

P Plater Lalita Sakhi Benson, 21, got caught drink driving just below the high range on April 28.

Self-represented she told the court she realised she’d made a silly mistake and was “glad” something was happening about it.

The court heard she was brought to police attention by her manner of driving before recording a reading of 0.148.

Benson pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving and was convicted and sentenced to a 12-month community correction order.

She was disqualified for three months, and ordered to use an interlock for 12 months.

Andrew Jason McCorriston

Nerang man Andrew Jason McCorriston thought he was feeling groggy from painkillers and not alcohol when he was caught drink driving the court heard.

The 41-year-old was stopped on Minjungbal Drive about 8.50am on May 3 where he had a child in the front passenger seat.

He told police he had drunk eight VBs with no food between 6pm and 12am the previous night before returning a reading of 0.146.

Defence lawyer Geoff Gallagher told the court his client had taken a number of painkillers that night for a ligament issue and a problem with his wisdom tooth which he believed was making him feel groggy.

McCorriston was convicted and sentenced to a 12-month community correction order after pleading guilty to mid range drink driving.

He was disqualified for three months, and ordered to use an interlock for 12 months.

Rach’e Totino

Self represented Rach’e Totino pleaded guilty to mid range drink driving and driving while visiting privileges were withdrawn.

Totino, 24, was stopped on Minjungbal Drive for a random breath test on February 9 about 11.50pm after he was seen swerving within a lane on Tweed Valley Way in South Murwillumbah.

He was stopped on quarry road where his breath smelt of alcohol and his eyes were glazed and blood shot.

Totino told police he had drunk three full strength stubbies within 20 minutes of driving.

He returned a reading of 0.145 and was immediately suspended.

On April 14 he was caught driving on Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South where checks showed his WA licence had been suspended.

The landscaper told the court he was remorseful and had completed the traffic offenders program.

He was sentenced to a conditional release order for 12 months and disqualified from driving for three months with an interlock for 12 months.
