Maree Envig, Elise Leearn Envig, Derek Mason in court for alleged border protest offending

“God will prevail over these unlawful satanic laws that are changing every day, like the goal posts are moving,” one protester declared outside court.

A hearing date has been set for a mother and daughter facing charges for their alleged involvement in a protest at the Queensland NSW border on August 22.

Maree Envig, 52, and Elise Leearn Envig, 30, appeared before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, both self-represented.

Elise Envig maintained her not guilty pleas to assaulting police, possession of a prohibited drug and breaching stay at home orders and participate in unlawful public gathering.

Elise told the court she had received a brief of evidence, however there were issues with the sound on some body-worn camera footage and said there was video evidence missing from a police officer she alleged had assaulted her.

Maree Envig also maintained not guilty pleas to three counts of resisting or hindering a police officer in the execution of duty.

Both cases were adjourned to July 19, 2022 for hearing.

Derek Mason, 64, also appeared before the court without a lawyer, although he said has engaged one.

He maintained his pleas of not guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer, unlawfully participate in an outdoor gathering in a stay at home area and resisting or hindering a police officer in the execution of duty.

Mr Mason said he was yet to receive the brief of evidence against him, however police prosecutor Alix Thom said their records showed the brief had been served.

The case was adjourned to November 22 to ensure Mr Mason received the evidence.

Outside of court Mr Mason told media: “God will prevail over these unlawful satanic laws that are changing every day, like the goal posts are moving.”
