Luke Edward Hodges: Palm Beach chef pleads guilty to drink driving

A Palm Beach man had a less than romantic Valentine’s Day pleading his case in court after drink driving cost him his job.

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

A big win at a Tweed sports club ended up with a Valentine’s Day date with court for Palm Beach man Luke Edward Hodges.

The 34-year-old was stopped on Kennedy Drive at 1.50am on January 25 where he immediately told police he would be “well over” the blood alcohol limit.

And he was, recording a reading of 0.207, more than four times the limit.

Representing himself, Hodges pleaded guilty in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday to high range drink driving.

He told the court he’d been to the Seagulls Club with a friend for what was meant to be lunch and a couple of beers.

Hodges said his friend ended up winning a lot of money which “snowballed” and led to him drunkenly getting behind the wheel.

He told the court he’d lost his job as a chef as a result of the incident.

Hodges was convicted and fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for the minimum driving and interlock periods.
