A Bogangar man ripped off the door to the house of a man he suspected his partner was cheating on him with, according to court papers.
Court papers reveal on October 1, 2020 at 3pm police attended a Elfran St, Pottsville address to speak to the victim about damage to his front door.
The victim said Anthony Stephen Siganto, 58, had come to his front door furious and believed he was in a relationship with Siganto’s partner.
The victim said this wasn’t the case due to various medical conditions.
He told police Siganto refused to listen and pulled the screen door, pulling the door catch out of the wooden door jam.
In self-defence the victim returned a punch to Siganto, however it was unknown if Siganto was hit as he left the scene before police arrived.
Siganto was arrested on October 11 and while in custody said, “I pulled a door open, so what?”
Siganto pleaded guilty in Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday to damaging property.
Defence lawyer Riley Owen told the court the victim in this matter had been preventing Siganto’s partner from attending work and “leading her off track” in his eyes.
He said Siganto’s partner had since passed away and Siganto and the victim had patched things up.
Mr Owen said Siganto planned to move to Casino to get away from the memories of the incident and the partner.
Magistrate Geoff Dunlevy noted Siganto was on a community corrections order for a prior damaging property offence.
The order was revoked and he was fined $300.
For the offence before the court Siganto was convicted and sentenced to a 16 month community correction order and ordered to pay $200 compensation.
