A Bilambil Heights construction worker has found himself on the wrong side of the law after an argument with his ex-partner took a violent twist.

Jason Romoff, 34, was arrested and charged with intent to damage property and intimidation after an altercation with his ex-partner where he punched the windshield of her car, Tweed Heads Local Court heard.

Police facts state the pair had been arguing over family matters, which resulted in both Romoff and the victim abusing each other.

The woman walked away from the argument, got her laptop and keys, and informed Romoff she was leaving the home to work from the front seat of her car.

Romoff followed, grabbing the car keys, causing the keyring to break.

The victim was able to shut the car’s door and Romoff punched the windscreen.

Magistrate Geoff Dunlevy said while the violence was focused on property, it would have been frightening for the victim.

Romoff was convicted and sentenced to a two-year community corrections order.
