A massive $75 million 47-unit apartment complex has been approved for the heart of Casuarina with construction expected to start later this year.
The joint venture between Holms Development and DeMartini Fletcher was approved by the Northern Regional Planning Panel on May 26.
The four-storey building will feature two, three and four-bedroom apartments, tropical landscaping and resort-style amenities.
The building, which includes 30 custom made bicycles for residents, access to stand-up paddle boards and surfboards, a pool with a wet deck and beach, barbecues with a kitchen and bar area, will be located at 5 Grand Parade on a 4083 square metre block.
Holms Development director Godfrey Esmonde said 70 per cent of the apartment sales so far have come from the local Tweed Coast area – with sales averaging at $1.65 million, and the most recent sale close to $3 million.
He said the 18-month construction process should begin in the final quarter of this year.
“The developer and selected head contractor will work together to mitigate as much noise and other intrusions into the lives of residents,” Mr Esmonde said.
“We are fortunate that most surrounding lots are vacant or under construction.”
He said there were no changes requested by the council during the DA process.
“The council and regional panel acknowledged the design was well considered and presented an excellent architectural outcome for the site in-line with the expectation of the council and local residents,” Mr Esmonde said.
He said the developers were in discussion with a leading builder and the appointment of the head contractor is expected within three months.
The development will be designed for owner-occupied apartments, targeting people who wish to downsize or families chasing the beachside lifestyle.
