An ambitious Pentecostal church in northern NSW has revealed its plans for a $6.6 million development to grow its community.
The Pentecostal Gardn church led by pastors Jonathan (Jono) and Amy Kerridge currently runs its services at 85 Phillip St, Chinderah.
But a development application details plans to relocate and expand.
The new site touted for a multistage development is just up the road, at 90 Phillip St, Chinderah.
According to their website, “Gardn was birthed out of a desire for a thriving, life-giving church.”
According to planning documents, the church — formerly known as Tweed Coastal Church — bought the site in 2020 and until now has also been using other leased spaces including the nearby Seventh Day Adventist Church.
If approved, the development would occur in stages - over about five to 10 years.
“The development is proposed to be staged, with the initial and immediate stages … catering for the church’s existing community base and growth (such as the auditorium for up to 350 seats, administration and kids/youth spaces),” the plans state.
“There is envisioned future expansion to grow with the church’s community (increasing the auditorium up to 750 seats and additional ancillary uses).”
The new site would see a place of public worship as well as a cafe, offices, youth spaces, community rooms and outdoor areas.
The proposed hours of operation would be 7am to 10pm, from Monday to Sunday.
The development application will be determined by the Northern Regional Planning Panel in the coming months.
