RETIREMENT-living and aged-care providers have jumped into the spirit of National Volunteer Week, hosting a celebratory lunch and cross-border croquet match for all their volunteers yesterday.
Blue Care volunteer co-ordinator Kelly Adams and Tweed Valley Respite Service co-ordinator Stephanie McKitrick organised the event in conjunction with the Tweed Heads Croquet Club.
Ms Adams said 28 volunteers joined in the “state of origin” match that saw Queensland volunteers face up to their NSW counterparts.
“The croquet club were so warm and welcoming, they taught everyone how to play and then put on a barbecue for us,” Ms Adams said.
“They really went out of their way to do something for the volunteers.”
