Casuarina celebrates town centre

A WAVE of Casuarina locals descended upon the local Sandbar and Grill yesterday to celebrate the approval of the Casuarina Town Centre with its developers.

A WAVE of Casuarina locals descended upon the local Sandbar and Grill yesterday afternoon to celebrate the approval of the Casuarina Town Centre with its developers.

Consolidated Properties managing director Don O’Rorke joined in meeting and greeting residents.

About 200 people were present throughout the afternoon which included a jumping castle, face painting and a live band.

The first stage of the Casuarina Town Centre is expected to be opened by 2011 after New South Wales planning minister Kristina Kenneally approved the concept plan for the controversial $386 million development last month.

Mr O’Rorke previously said he welcomed the approval.

“There have been some issues with Tweed Shire Council but we have worked through those with council and achieved most of the objectives,” Mr O’Rorke said last month.

The project is expected to bring 500 new jobs in construction and operations to the Tweed and give Casuarina residents the shopping centre they have waited so long for.

The first stage of the project is worth $26.6 million.
