They are ambitious, diverse and making their mark on the competitive Northern NSW real estate market.

Some of these relative newcomers to the industry have made over $10 million in the last twelve months alone.

They are the newcomers who have been in their roles in the real estate game for less than three years – and have already shook up the Tweed.

Jo Lynch opted for a complete career change to real estate after 21 years in the radio industry, with time off to raise her children: “With the boys back at school, I wanted to do something different.”

“I’ve always enjoyed the process of buying and selling properties,” she said.

After 10 years of flipping houses, Ms Lynch picked up on her interest in real estate.

“I just knew I’d be good at it as I love communication,” she said.

“I love how not every day is the same and that it’s a 24/7 job where you’re getting to meet so many different people from all walks of life”

Ms Lynch shared her initial goal going into her new career: “At the beginning of the year, I set a goal that I might sell 12 houses – I’ve more than doubled that.”

“Real estate is all about people, it also works so well for me being a Mum,” she said.

“I can work my own hours, I can fit in the school pick up and work from home on my computer in the afternoon.”

“It suits my lifestyle and my family, and I’m enjoying my own individual success in this career.”

Johnny Suresh – Ray White

Johnny Suresh is a registered salesperson who originally started in Singapore working in property management.

“I’ve amalgamated all of my knowledge from my time in real estate in Singapore and am reasonably happy with where I am going,” he said

Due to the 2021-22 floods, Mr Suresh was left homeless for a good eight months and went through the hardships too many locals had to go through.

“We lost almost everything … the interesting thing during that time the market remained resilient when the floods took place,” he said.

“The market picked up again despite the recent interest rate hikes”

Despite the hardships, Mr Suresh said he loves Australia, especially the Murwillumbah area.

He has been waiting for a Visa decision and looks forward to being part of the community with permanent residency.

“Murwillumbah has a diverse culture you might see an arts show one week and a rodeo on the next,” he said.

“You might have various markets with lots of emphasis on people expressing themselves in a good way.”

Owen Fredericks has been in the real estate game for more than two years and has sold eight property listings over the past twelve months worth more than $10 million.

Having grown up in the Tweed, Mr Fredericks knows the shire very well.

Mr Fredericks, previously a tradie working away from home, said he wanted to return to his hometown.

“My cousin got into real estate, and we had some conversations … I love being responsible for people‘s largest assets and (them) trusting me with their biggest assets,” he said.

“I was fortunate enough to grow up in the area, the location is stunning … it’s a middle area where we have proximity to Brisbane, Byron Bay and Gold Coast Airport” he said.

“I love that my job is performance-based and that I get to create relationships with sellers and buyers … we have to showcase the home and get the price that they’re after”

“Covid has given us the ability to work from home. I’ve had good phone calls from buyers interstate.”

Erin King – LJ Hooker

After only a short seven-month stint in her current role, Erin King has racked up nearly 4500 followers on her Instagram page, and she’s an agent to watch.

“I’ve got local knowledge that has helped people and I’ve been able to acquire different marketing techniques and bring something different to the table” she said.

“I like the diversity, the people, communication aspect and how every day on the job is different.”

Ms King said buyers moving to Tweed from down south, places like Melbourne and Sydney, have been diverse and seeking diverse properties.

“The Tweed shire is down to earth, the natural beauty is stunning,” she said.

“It is not just one flat space, there is the beaches market, the low-rise market and Coolangatta/Tweed Heads has some markets within markets.

‘You need to understand the local diversity, and what that means to the buyer.”

She described the shire’s natural beauty as “second to none”.

David Norvill – Image Property

A Tweed local who has turned to real estate, David Norvill worked for Tweed Shire Council for 10 years dealing with all kinds of people all over the shire.

Mr Norvill has now sold four property listings worth more than $5 million over the past year in his role.

“I’ve always been good with people, it was a big opportunity for me to get into real estate,” he said.

“To have such a big asset and provide a strong service, to see a smile on their face, is why I like doing my job,” he said.

“I don’t think I’d want to work anywhere else other than the Tweed”.

Mr Norvill described the Tweed as “probably very underrated in general”, but said the shire “has grown significantly over the last few years”.

Mr Norvill said his strong work ethic and trust he has built have been key to his job.

“ I give 110 per cent with all my work and everyone that I’ve worked with, or worked for,” he said.

“I care about my job and care about everyone‘s assets. I take a lot of pride that people can trust us.

“We dedicate and strive to get the best possible price on the market.”

Craig Taylor – Ray White

Craig Taylor opted for a gear shift into sales, a role he has been in for the past two years, after working in property management for more than 15 years.

“It was time for a change,” he said.

“ … it is a nice follow-on, getting out a bit. It’s nice to get out there and talk to the locals whether they’re from the area or not.

“I like dealing with people from different backgrounds as I’ve always had a customer-based background throughout my entire career.”

Mr Taylor said many people made the transition from Melbourne and Sydney to Murwillumbah last year, which put Tweed agents “in a pretty unique position”.

There was a huge influx,” he said.

Mr Taylor sung the praises of the town for its “scenery, surroundings, greenery and the mountains”, and its proximity to regional centres and attractions.
