A new eatery is coming to Kingscliff featuring New York and Filipino-inspired sandwiches and doughnuts, among other fare.
Owner Johnny Ang said he was excited to swing open the doors to George’s Deli Kingscliff at 7.30am on Saturday – with the first 100 customers receiving free maple glazed doughnuts in celebration.
Located at shop 3, 103 Marine Parade, near the Kingscliff Beach Hotel, the deli was named after Mr Ang’s late mother Georgina. His wife Jerrika Ang will be head chef.
Mr Ang said having a sandwich and doughnut store on the beach was Mrs Ang’s idea.
“She always goes to New York and has been fascinated with their deli sandwich shops,” he said.
Mr Ang said he and his wife, originally from the Philippines, decided to open in Kingscliff after they fell in love with the area.
“It’s amazing, it’s like paradise – opening in Kingscliff is one of the things we’ve been talking about for a few years,” he said.
In a generous gesture, the Angs said they will provide discounts for uniformed police, firefighters and paramedics.
“I was a nurse at one point and I know how hard it is to work in hospitals and I know how hard first responders’ jobs are,” Mr Ang said.
“We just want to give back to them for all their sacrifices and to help them in the smallest way we can.
“We’ll surely serve banging really good doughnuts and sandwiches that have never been seen before.
“We’ll make things different to keep everybody excited.”
