Tweed Heads musician Lachlan Buggy was headed home from a gig at Chinderah when he was tragically struck by a car earlier this month.

Now, shattered brother and Fat Albert bandmate Matthew Buggy has spoken out about his much-loved sibling and his sudden, heartbreaking death on September 22.

Lachlan, 32, is survived by his brother, “beautiful” eight year old daughter Meika and his mum Carolyn.

Fat Albert is a popular and long-running local rock band on the North Coast. The band has supported the Screaming Jets, Coolio, Daryl Braithewaite, Wolfmother, Choirboys and more over the years.

Matthew said his brother was “the best dad and the best brother that anyone could ask for”.

He said his brother “lived very well” and “like a rock star”.

“I can‘t put into words how to feel or what to say, but we all knew him as a big human and larger than life personality,” he said.

“He partied hard and rocked harder.”

The Buggy brothers grew up in Hastings Point and ended up playing gigs far and wide, making a particular name for themselves in the Tweed.

Matthew said Lachlan was not just an everyday musician to him – he was the “greatest rock star on Earth”.

“No one else played bass guitar like him – he was just a freak of nature,” Matthew said.

Fat Albert has played gigs from the Northern Territory to Melbourne, and Matthew said touring with the Jets was a particularly notable experience for he and his brother.

“That was probably the biggest highlight of our lives,” Matthew said.

The bassist for the Screaming Jets, Paul Wossen, sadly died just a week before Lachlan.
