A man’s ‘unwell’ circumstances after he allegedly bit off another man’s nose has been revealed in court.

East Lismore man Benjamin Quaresmini, 37, was mentioned in Tweed Heads Local Court on Friday.

Police will allege another 37-year-old man left a hotel on Friday on Wharf Street, Tweed Heads and walked to a bus stop outside a nearby shopping centre, planning to wait until transport recommenced.

They will allege he spoke to Mr Quaresmini, already waiting at the bus stop, before the pair were later involved in an altercation about 12am.

During the altercation, the tip of the victim’s nose was bitten off.

Police were notified and a crime scene was established where a piece of the man’s nose was located.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital to undergo reattachment surgery.

Mr Quaresmini was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

On Friday, his solicitor Geofff Gallagher asked if his client could detained in a mental health facility

“He’s very unwell,” he told the court.

Magistrate Peter Budgen approved the application, noting “more will come to light” as to what caused Mr Quaresmini’s alleged actions.
