Video footage has captured the moment a tradesman fell from an eastern suburbs rooftop following an alleged brawl— which landed the same man in hospital and has sparked a police investigation.
The three tradies found themselves at the centre of a police probe after an alleged worksite confrontation at a home on Old South Head Rd at Bellevue Hill about midday on Wednesday.
Paramedics treated a 44-year-old man who had fallen from the roof of the one-storey home and suffered injuries to his torso.
He was placed in a neckbrace and put on a stretcher, before being taken to hospital St Vincent’s Hospital.
Police spoke with two of his colleagues at the scene - a 45-year-old and a 41-year-old - who were arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station.
No one has been charged over the incident.
But footage has now emerged of the incident on Instagram, which seemingly shows two of the tradies, one bare-chested and one in a fluorescent vest, wrestling on the rooftop.
A flurry of reflective yellow and flannel can be seen, before the two men are pulled apart by a third who had clambered up.
As the pair appear to pause and perhaps retreat, the third man appears to be holding onto the barechested man’s shirt, before he lets go.
Then, the footage shows the first man then tumbling off the roof to the surprise of stunned onlookers.
Neighbours told The Daily Telegraph they first heard a loud argument between two workers – one of them up on the roof and the other standing down on the ground – around 11AM.
“One went up, they started bashing each other,” one neighbour said.
“They were fully fighting – I watched the whole thing!
“Another went up, pulled them apart, and the guy fell off the roof.”
The neighbour, who did not want to be named, said that the man who went up to the roof second was the one who fell to the ground.
Another neighbour said police who arrived at the scene said that man had “a fractured shoulder, fractured head and bleeding from the mouth.”
“We were just watching – we heard screaming, and we called the police.”
A dark green ute remained parked near the house late into the afternoon, which the home’s tenant said belonged to one of the workers.
The house appears to have been undergoing significant repairs, which parts of the roof being stripped of terracotta tiles. New, grey corrugated roofing lay on the driveway. The tenant said the house was also undergoing painting work.
The tenant did not appear to have known a fight had occurred.
Police sources said officers had been told of ongoing tensions on the worksite, however it remains unclear if charges will be laid by investigators.
In a statement, NSW Police said all three men were assisting them with their investigations, while the man who fell from the roof was in a stable condition.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 44-year-old man for injuries to his torso, before taking him to St Vincent‘s Hospital in a stable condition,” the statement read.
“Two men, aged 45 and 41, were arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station where they are assisting police with inquiries.”
The investigation into the incident is being led by Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command but will involve officers from SafeWork NSW.
