How much would you pay to surf with Tony Abbott or have high tea with Alan Jones?
It’s a question the Liberal Party is willing to ask, auctioning off the chance to spend time with both the ex-PM and former 2GB host to raise money for the next election.
The party has launched a fundraiser to help pay for their campaign to win back the federal seat of Warringah on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in 2022, selling tickets for luxury prizes to be won in a raffle draw.
A Liberal Party flyer for the raffle, titled “Winning Back Warringah”, revealed donors who bought one ticket for $50, five for $100 or 12 for $200 would land themselves in the running for 17 different prizes.
“More than a dozen amazing prizes to be won in support of the campaign to win back the Federal seat of Warringah,” the flyer read.
It comes as the party launched a campaign office in Balgowlah yesterday in a bid to win back Mr Abbott’s old seat, which Independent MP Zali Steggal snatched in the 2019 election with an 18 per cent swing.
“Enter the draw for a chance to win one of 17 amazing prizes in support of the campaign to win back the Federal Seat of Warringah,” the raffle ticket purchase page read.
“Enjoy an all-inclusive harbour cruise or a weekend away, morning tea with a legendary broadcaster, or even a surf lesson and breakfast with a former Prime Minister.”
The prize pool, which claims to have a combined value of just over $18,200, estimates a chance to hit the waves and have breakfast with Mr Abbott is valued at $2500 while brunch with Mr Jones will set punters back $3000.
Other prizes include a weekend away at the Four Seasons Darling Harbour, tickets to the Wallabies 2021 home test match and a tour of Taronga Zoo with NSW Environment Minister Matt Kean.
The winners will be drawn on February 24 next year, but there’s an option for those who aren’t willing to leave their winnings to chance.
“Interested in a particular prize, but not keen to leave it to chance? We may be able to duplicate the prize for those interested in making a private bid,” the flyer read.
