Three teens injured after gatecrashers invade Northmead party

A western Sydney father has described the traumatic scenes as a gang stormed his daughter’s 18th birthday party last night, stabbing two guests in the back.

A western Sydney father has described the traumatic scenes as a gang stormed his daughter’s 18th birthday party last night, stabbing two guests in the back.

The party for Emily Brinsmead was lively, with about 50 guests, but peaceful until the small group rushed through the backyard of the home on Redbank Rd, Northmead.

Emily’s father Mark Brinsmead said the violent gatecrashers wore beanies as well as masks tied across their mouths. He believed they were there to target one member of the party.

“I don’t know why they were after him … they got him, he had a stab wound in the back,” Mr Brinsmead said.

Another young male, a close friend of Emily’s was also stabbed.

“He wasn’t the one they were after, he was just caught in the firing line,” Mr Brinsmead said.

“Up until then it was a good party, we’ve had parties here before, it won’t be happening again though.”

He said he was inside the house when he a commotion in his rear yard about 10.45pm.

“I looked up and saw everyone running up to the backyard,” he said

“(The attackers) had beanies on and little masks across their mouths.”

Both males, aged 17 and 19, were treated at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital, as was an 18-year-old male with a hand injury.

Police attended the party and fingerprinted the crime scene before taking statements from party attendees.

Neighbour Andrew Nakad said he woke to find smashed beer bottles in his back courtyard and an axe he had been keeping behind a shed had been moved out into his yard.

“There were a lot of tools stacked behind the shed and they were scattered everywhere,” he said
