The Snitch: Case of the Beckham’s rifled mail and paparazzi link

POLICE were called to the $17m Mosman mansion that Victoria and David Beckham are calling home on their Australian visit after some kids were spotted rifling through the celebrity couple’s postbox — but it appears paparazzi might be involved.

SURE, The Snitch is interested in what Posh and Becks get up to in Sydney but this is just ridiculous.

Police were yesterday called to the $17 million beachside mansion in Mosman that Victoria and David Beckham are calling home on their Australian visit after some kids were spotted rifling through the celebrity couple’s postbox.

Suspect number one is paparazzi photographer and serial pest Jayden Seyfarth who was accused of putting the kids up to it.

But Seyfarth denies it, saying it was skulduggery by a rival pap who has been camped out the front of the property with him.

“What happened is two girls and a guy went up to the letterbox and took letters out of the Beckhams’ letterbox and the paps showed the cops the video, so they turned up,” he said.

When asked if he told the kids to steal the mail, Seyfarth said: “No, no, no, no.”

“I just filmed them doing it,” Seyfarth said.

Police also spoke to another paparazzi outside the Mosman house, who made a rude gesture when photographed himself.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the house just before 11am where they spoke to a 27-year-old woman, understood to be the rival pap.

“Investigations are continuing,” the spokeswoman said.

“There have been no charges at this stage.”

MUSICAL CHAIRS

District Court Judge Penny Hock was forced to deal with the unfortunate architectural design of the state’s newest court rooms this week.

Judge Hock is presiding over the case of Lucky Gattellari, who is accused of trying to bribe businessman Ron Medich in exchange for messing up his evidence in Medich’s murder trial.

Only when preparing to bring the jury into court 6.1 of the Downing Centre, Judge Hock realised a poorly placed pylon meant she couldn’t see Gattellari in the dock.

She asked him to relocate to a seat on his left but then the jury couldn’t see him behind a second pylon.

They tried moving Gattellari to a spot between his solicitor and the sheriff’s officer before he finally settled in the second dock with his co-accused.

The modern new courtroom may look impressive compared with the rooms floors below but the pylons are proving to be obstructive.

Insiders tell us the pylons are where they are because of a combination of heritage listing and the design of the court building, which in a previous life was the Mark Foy’s department store.

VILLA THE ALLEGED GORILLA

Former rugby league international Richard Villasanti is scheduled to face court on domestic violence allegations.

According to court documents, Villasanti, who is best known for putting an infamous late hit on Brad Fittler in the 2001 grand final, will face the Downing Centre Local Court on November 12 charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The case is in its early stages and the ex-Kangaroos front rower, who was known as Villa the Gorilla, has not entered a plea. He has also been charged with breaching an AVO.

IT’S XMAS IN OCTOBER

It’s the legal fraternity’s equivalent of Easter eggs in January. But no one is complaining because there is booze on offer.

Forbes Chambers’ Christmas party took place on Friday night in the Sydney CBD at the very early and unseasonable date of October 26. There is something of an arms race going on with early Christmas parties.

The other noteworthy entry is Sir Owen Dixon Chambers, which is having its Christmas Party in November.

CREEPY SECURITY GUARD

A security guard at the NSW Supreme Court building at Queens Square has been shown the door after making creepy comments about female lawyers.

The officer was a familiar face for the solicitors, judges and associates who streamed through the metal detectors every morning.

However, he is alleged to have overstepped his duties on more than one occasion when he made suggestive remarks about female lawyers’ appearances.

One comment involved a reference to a basement. The Snitch understands the security guard’s employment was ended in October.

ABC TERROR THREAT

What’s that saying about the media reporting the news not becoming the news?

An ABC cameraman gave us an example yesterday when one of Aunty’s cameramen triggered the anti-terror alarm and the hoo-ha that followed it at Garden Island.

The ABC car set of an anti-terror alarm.

According to Snitch correspondent Ben Pike, the cameraman was driving into the unveiling of the HMAS Brisbane when he bumped a barrier.

The collision set off an alarm, the anti-terror bollards sprung out of the ground and military security sprung into action.

The cameraman and a photographer, who was also in the car, were questioned before it was established that they weren’t a terror threat. Asked at the scene if any action will be taken, a military spokesman replied sternly: “We don’t know yet.”
