This year, 46 students received the top ATAR of 99.95.

Of those who received the perfect mark, 19 were female and 27 were male and they come from a mix of public and private schools.

The girls have beaten the boys, receiving a median ATAR of 71.10, while boys were behind receiving 67.80. The median ATAR was 69.65.

Of those who received an ATAR, 16.7 per cent achieved a score of 90 or above.

Because there was a significant amount of students who received a mark between 70 and 80, those who received 80 will have a significantly higher ATAR than those who achieved a HSC mark of 70.

James Ruse student Raymond Li was among the students to receive the perfect score.

“I woke up earlier around 8.50am and it was already up on the site,” he said.

After realising he was one of the 46 who achieved the top mark in the state he rushed to tell his parents.

“They were very happy but I kind of expected it after knowing my marks yesterday.”

He also topped the state in the Chemistry and mathematics Extension 1 course.

He said the studying only got serious in the couple of weeks leading up to the exams.

“I studied mainly just the week or two before the exams, before that it was more relaxed.”

To maintain composure throughout year 12 the 18-year-old said he played chess online as an outlet.
