With police crackdowns bringing an end to outlawed bikie gangs across NSW, we take a look at those which are still thriving, and which ones are dying out.

With clubhouses shut and membership numbers dwindling, gangs are losing millions of dollars as their criminal activities come to and end.

But some are still going strong, including...

THE SURVIVORS

Rebels

Still the largest bikie gang in Australia, but they have been hurt by the loss of long-standing president Alex Vella and members are “patching out” all over Sydney. They have chapters all over the state.

Bandidos

Started in Australia in 1983 and quickly went to war with the Comanchero, resulting in the Father’s Day Massacre in 1984. Still a significant force.

Comanchero

One of the oldest outlaw clubs and especially powerful in the western suburbs. Still strong but keeping a low profile.

Hells Angels

A number of key members are in jail after recent high-profile fights and shootings, but still very much one of the big gangs.

OPINION: MURDERING MORONS HIDING BEHIND ISLAM

Finks

Formed in Adelaide in the 1960s and considered extremely violent, they have recently expanded their operations in Sydney and NSW.

Lonewolf

Growing in influence in NSW. Went on major recruitment drive 18 months ago and has been involved in number of clashes with the Rebels.

Mongols

Set up a chapter on the Central Coast five years ago with grand plans to expand into Sydney. Sworn enemies of the Hells Angels.

WEAKENED

Black Uhlans

Used to be a well-organised gang with a low profile but is losing its reputation as a gang of influence.

Fourth Reich

Has a presence in Wollongong and South Coast areas but not a major player.

Gladiators

Chapters based Newcastle and the Hunter region, but have been significantly disrupted by police.

Gypsy Jokers

A US-based club like the Hells Angels, they are “old school” but have regsitered little public visibility lately.

Life and death

Formed in 1978 and based in the Hawkesbury district, the club has been hurt by clubhouse closures and arrests.

Nomads

They are allied to the Hells Angels but have been seriously weakened by clubhouse closures and arrests.

Odin’s Warriors

Dominant in southeast Queensland and attempted to expand into northern NSW. Are seen occasionally over the border.

Outcasts

Formed in Sydney in the late 1960s, but hardly seen of late and has a very small membership.

Outlaws

Chapters scattered throughout Australia with a small presence in western Sydney. Like the Outcasts have barely been seen of late.

Phoenix

Little-known gang that made some noise a few years ago but hasn’t really been heard of since.

COLLAPSED

Highway 61

Founded in New Zealand and associated with the Bandidos, they have dropped off the radar in the past 12 months.

Mobshitters

Started in Hurstville in 1970 and also aligned with the Bandidos, they no longer appear to exist.

Notorious

Exploded on to the bikie landscape around 2010 and were often called Nike Bikies because members didn’t have motorbikes. No longer exist.

Rock Machine

Strong in Western Australia but have fallen off the radar in NSW.
