For 16 months, investigators watched a group of radicalised Sydney men planning to carry out a terror attack on home soil.

In what is still regarded as Australia’s biggest counter-terrorism operation, the men, known as the Pendennis Nine, were charged and eventually convicted over the plot.

Another nine men were charged over a terror cell in Melbourne.

Today, some of the hard line members have stuck to their extremist views and are languishing in maximum security prisons.

One is dead after pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State and two others are on parole after being given a second chance.
