Tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios has responded to a community Facebook post which outed him for parking his $190,000 lime-green Tesla in a shared car zone, saying “I’ve made amends”.

In a lighthearted volley, the world number 77 responded to claims he was regularly parking in a shared car zone outside a block of flats in Zetland.

“I’ve parked in the right spot, I’ve made amends,” Kyrgios fired back on Wednesday evening in a video shared to his Instagram.

“Sorry for my inconvenient parking for one day, I’ve parked in the right spot. We’re in the middle of an NRL season guys so let’s talk about other sporting athletes, not where I’m parking … it’s all good now.”

It came after a Facebook post by a neighbour of Mr Kyrgios alleged he was regularly parking his hard-to-miss lime-green Tesla Model X in a shared parking zone outside a block of flats in Zetland.

“Looking for some advice here, it’s a tricky one, we have a car share allocated spot right out the front of our apartment building,” the neighbour posted, referring to a car park reserved for share cars.

“Recently a very well known famous and quite notorious tennis player has decided that he is somehow entitled to park in it with his own vehicle.”

While the neighbour didn’t want to “name and shame the guy”, he wrote “he’s very famous and parks in this car share space almost nightly, meaning that anybody that has a Go Get or Car Next Door vehicle has no option to park there”.

But the mystery of who he was speaking about was quickly dashed – with the sister of Kyrgios’ girlfriend Costeen Hatzi commenting on the post.

“Hey all, to be fair, he didn’t realise it was a car share spot,” Mary Hatzi wrote.

“He parked there to allow other car spots for those who can’t find parking in the area.

“Nick understands and will move his car. Thank you for all your kind messages.”

While the $117 fine for parking in a share car zone wouldn’t make a dint in the millionaire’s pockets, other neighbours had mixed response on the alleged indiscretion.

“I’ve spoken with him at the park several times and he seems like a top bloke, despite his on-court persona,” one wrote.

“I’m sure if you leave a note, he’ll move the car.”

“A lot of angry vicious people in Zetland,” another wrote.

“There are any number of people parking illegally in the area.”

Mr Kyrgios’ management was contacted for comment.
