A baby-faced teenager accused of stabbing a 17-year-old to death and leaving another fighting for life in hospital will spend at least the next two months behind bars awaiting trial.

Kristian Kovaleff, 19, was handcuffed and wearing prison greens when he appeared via audio visual link at Parramatta Bail Court from the Amber Laurel Correctional Centre in Emu Plains on Sunday afternoon.

He stands accused of stabbing a 17-year-old girl to death and inflicting grievous bodily harm on another girl, also 17, at a birthday party at the Meriton Suites on Friday night.

Magistrate Milanovich yesterday scheduled Kovaleef’s next court hearing for February 25 at Parramatta Local Court, which will give police time to prepare a brief of evidence.

Kovaleff appeared calm and kept looking down during his court appearance, only saying “right” after his legal aid solicitor Matthew Bogunovich informed him he would tell his other solicitor of his next court date.

Court documents state he had been charged with murdering one female between 7.32pm and 10.37pm and said he was accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on a second teenager.

Police had said they were called to the building at 10.45pm after one of the girls was found bleeding from stab wounds in the foyer of the five-star accommodation.

Police were alerted to a second girl in a hotel room upstairs, who was found with numerous stab wounds to her torso.

Paramedics performed CPR on the girl and rushed her to Westmead Hospital, but she died on arrival.

The girl found in the lobby was rushed to hospital and was in a critical condition on arrival, which was later downgraded to stable.

Kovaleff went to Parramatta Police Station with his father and handed himself in hours after the girls were stabbed.
