The girl was bleeding from her neck and was helped by a bystander before being treated for stab wounds. She was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
Five minutes later, police were called to the nearby Chatswood Chase shopping mall after a man died by suicide inside the complex.
The 52-year-old man was found with severe injuries and couldn’t be revived.
Police said a fight broke out between the pair inside the Nicholson St home before the man’s death. It’s believed the girl was assaulted and stabbed before the man ran from the scene.
“We believe the incidents are related and we are investigating,’’ a police spokesperson said.
