An investigation into warring crime clans has led to a teenager being charged with allegedly stealing more than half-a-dozen vehicles in a single month from homes all across Sydney.

Luxury vehicles including Audis, BMWs, three Mercedes and a Land Rover were allegedly stolen in July this year by the teenager, as he trekked far and wide between suburbs including Wattle Grove, West Pymble, Minto, Mascot, Brookvale, East Killara and Wahroonga.

But the 17-year-old’s alleged crime spree came to an end when it was uncovered by NSW Police as part of ongoing investigations into the use of stolen cars by crime clans like the Alameddines and Hamzys in Sydney’s deadly gang war.

Detectives attached to Strike Force Duncan arrested the teenager at a home in Ingleburn about 6.40am on Wednesday.

The teenager was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with 23 offences including driving on a Learner’s permit without an accompanying driver, aggravated break and enter, driving with a suspended licence and multiple counts of stealing a motor vehicle.

The youngster’s arrest comes just days after NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb warned of a growing TikTok trend among youths called: “Creeping while you sleeping”.

It allegedly involves posting videos on the popular social media platform that show the individual — some as young as 12 — driving stolen vehicles at speed, on occasions in pursuits with police.

“Then you get kids putting their postcodes and it becomes an ‘I’m better than your last brag’ … it’s very scary,” Commissioner Webb told The Sunday Telegraph.

“How do you prevent it? How do you take away that incentive to brag?

“It concerns us all because of the increasing frequency of it. And how do we stop doing kids doing these stupid things?”

Police sources said despite the growing trend, there was no accusation the teenager arrested this week by Strike Force Duncan had used social media during the alleged crime spree.

His arrest came two months after the arrest of 18-year-old Owen Snee-Walker, who police allege was also involved in the same crime spree.

Walker was charged with multiple counts of stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated break and enter, and various other offences and is currently behind bars on remand.

The 17-year-old arrested this week appeared at a Children’s Court on Wednesday, where he was formally refused bail.

He is next due to appear on Tuesday, October 11.
