WITH thousands of children across the country being tested for their reading, writing and arithmetic skills each year, here’s your chance to see what is expected of our children - and see who gets the bragging rights in your family.
Since 2008, students have undergone NAPLAN assessment tests in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and national results have shown that literacy and numeracy results have plateaued from 2015 to 2016.
This year, younger students have made strong gains in NAPLAN but overall results from the May tests have flatlined, despite record government funding poured into schools.

NAPLAN writing scores for students in the early years of high school have plummeted over the past five years, with educators fearing “grab reading” on digital devices could be affecting their performance.
“I would hope they are not doing grab writing, too,” one senior educator said yesterday as preliminary results from the 2016 National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy showed NSW Year 7 students’ mean writing score fell from 529 to 515 and Year 9 from 562 to 546.
