Sydney’s newest suburb will have 6200 new homes

SYDNEY’S newest suburb to be unveiled today will house 6200 homes, 13 parks and a primary school. But the State Government has stopped short of committing to widening a key road in the area.

WHEN residents move into Sydney’s newest suburb, the parks, schools and community spaces should be ready and waiting.

The state government will release a master plan for the Marsden Park North, a 6200-home suburb in Sydney’s northwest.

The suburb will include a new primary school and new pedestrian paths as well as playing fields and open space.

“Three new local centres throughout the Marsden Park North precinct, along with the commercial area along Richmond Rd, will provide the community with shops, cafes, community facilities and local jobs,” Planning Minister Anthony Roberts told The Sunday Telegraph.

“Residents will benefit from 13 brand new playing fields and more usable open space proposed for the area.”

The plan for Marsden Park North follows last week’s release of the master plan for nearby West Schofields.

Activity around Richmond Rd has exploded in the past two years with the introduction of thousands of new residents as well as Ikea, Bunnings and Costco.

The government is widening Garfield Rd and Schofields Rd.

Mr Roberts was unable to commit to widening Richmond Rd to three lanes, however, despite the road being a notorious bottleneck near the intersection with the M7.

The state government has also released plans for a major urban renewal project in Arncliffe in Sydney’s south.

The Bayside West 2036 Plan will include two apartment blocks 22 storeys high near Arncliffe station.

There will also be a new 12-storey apartment block on the Pacific Highway and an upgrade to a 7000sq m park near Arncliffe Town Centre.

Plans for Arncliffe West have been deferred.

The state government has also given Bayside Council $2.5 million funding to help update its Local Environment Plan and deliver the project.

“This is clearly a vote of confidence that Bayside Council will plan and deliver liveable future communities,” Bayside Council Mayor Bill Saravinovski said.

“They will include improved open space, associated recreational opportunities and high levels of amenities for residents.”
