Top Sydney restaurant Momofuku Seiobo is closing after a 10-year tenure at The Star casino.
The establishment, opened by culinary superstar and host of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious Dave Chang in 2011, is considered one of Sydney’s finest restaurants.
But general manager Kylie Javier Ashton announced “the end of an era’’ on Monday morning, with the fine dining restaurant to close for good on June 26. It had closed for 18 weeks during the pandemic.
“When our lease was up for renewal, we realised that the most sustainable thing we could do was to finish our time on top,” Ms Javier Ashton wrote on Instagram.
“This isn’t a sad ending … the goal was always to create a sustainable restaurant post-pandemic, which is exactly what we rebuilt.”
A statement on Momofuku Seiobo’s official Instagram account also confirmed the impending closure, thanking foodies for enjoying the “unconventional” dining experience for the past decade.
Gourmet Traveller recognised Momofuku Seiobo as Australia’s restaurant of the year in 2016, before it was added to the Food & Wine’s World’s Best Restaurants list in 2020 — one of just three Aussie venues on the honour roll.
