Iconic music venue the Lansdowne is shutting its doors in a few months when its lease runs out.
After reopening in 2017, the Lansdowne venue hosted some of the most iconic gigs within the Sydney music scene.
Burger group Mary’s, the venue’s custodians, wrote on Instagram: “Our reopening of the Lansdowne in June 2017 marked a seismic shift in the Live Music scene in Sydney, after years of closures and devastating lockouts.”
The closure follows the landlords’ decision to build further accommodation where the pub’s dedicated music space sits, so owners Kenny Graham and Jake Smythe have decided to hang up the boots and pass the license on.
Centrally located opposite the University of Sydney campus and Victoria Park in Chippendale, the Lansdowne played live music at least four times a week, had a 5am liquor license and a 400-person capacity for its upstairs music venue.
It was known for being one of the few major venues left which gave an outlet for up and coming local musicians.
