Sydneysiders shivered through a crisp morning which signalled the end of balmy temperatures normally expected during warmer months.

The mercury dropped to single figures in the early hours. In Sydney’s west Penrith’s dropped to 4C, Campbelltown recorded 2.3C but the city’s coldest temperature was at Camden with a frosty 1.3C.

It is just days after temperatures over 25C were recorded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Bureau of Meteorology said we won’t likely see the mid 20s of last week until winter’s end.

“We’ve said goodbye to summer, I would say. As we get further into May I don’t think we will get any more warm days,” meteorologist Helen Reid said.

“It is going to be fairly fresh on coastal areas tomorrow with a southerly wind dropping temperatures. After that there will be a bit of cloud cover and rain forecast for Thursday and Friday.”

Some frost is expected towards the end of the week in Sydney’s western suburbs with a chance of snow in the Blue Mountains.

Thursday and Friday could be very wet with approaching up to 30mm of rain over both days.

The possibility of a storm increases on Thursday in northern parts of the state as the cold weather rolls over.

Despite cool air temperatures board riders made the most of warm water conditions in the eastern suburbs.

A lack of swell did not stop surfers and swimmers from flocking to Bondi Beach where the water was a balmy 20C on Tuesday morning.
