THIS is the shocking moment bar staff unceremoniously dumped two unconscious women on a Sydney CBD street after they collapsed inside having been served eight shots each in just 40 minutes.
The prostrate pair were lucky patrolling police found them sprawled on the Liverpool St footpath and they were duly taken to hospital.
The Korean bar and restaurant, Gangnam Station, was given a strike last week — under the state government’s tough three strike liquor laws — as well as being fined $2200 and ordered to close earlier at night.
Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) director of compliance operations Sean Goodchild said the venue’s actions showed a “blatant disregard” for the health and safety of patrons and alcohol serving laws.
“It’s hard to imagine a worse case of a venue failing in its obligations to prevent misuse and abuse of alcohol,” Mr Goodchild said.
But a bar manager, who did not want to be named, yesterday said staff “were very surprised” when the women “suddenly” started collapsing.
“We now have more training,” he said. “It was after the last drink they suddenly fall back. Staff very surprised. We think they would go home with friend.
“Outside they sit down and lie down. Normally we would call taxi or ambulance.”
Evidence given to the authority by police stated three women visited the venue at 7.55pm on November 9, 2017 and ordered shots of a drink called The Peach, a brand of Korean national drink called soju.
“Following the seventh shot of soju, two of the female patrons struggled to sit upright, swayed from side to side and slumped back and forward at the table,” the police report stated.
Despite that the women were still served more drinks, with a waitress collecting two empty bottles of soju from the table and returning a minute later with another full one.
“At approximately 8.38pm all three female patrons consumed an eighth shot of soju,” the authority reported.
“After consuming their eighth shot, two of the female patrons collapsed forward on the table and struggled to sit upright before becoming unconscious.”
Staff and other patrons dragged the two women out of the restaurant and dumped them on the footpath.
“One of the female patrons vomited on the floor while being carried out,” the police reported stated.
Nearby patrolling police saw a gathering crowd and organised an ambulance to take the women to hospital, where they recovered without major harm.
NSW Police has fined the restaurant $2200 for permitting intoxication.
The closing time for Gangnam Station’s will move from 2am to midnight and it will have to hire a security guard trained in the responsible service of alcohol to be on the premises from 8pm each night.
