A sigh of relief has been breathed by residents along the Georges River as of midday Thursday, but forecast rain in coming days still has many on edge.
Picnic Point residents Donna Mulholland and Wendy Gurney sandbagged their properties overnight ahead of predicted major flooding along the Georges River.
While the water lapping over the access road to their homes began to reside by midday Thursday, both said they expected heavy forecast rains in the coming days to bring the threat of flooding back.
“We’re lucky, but I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet,” Ms Gurney said.
She spent Wednesday moving furniture from her garage to high ground.
“With the amount of water we’re meant to get over the next 14 days … it’s just going to rain everyday for a fortnight.”
Her neighbour Donna Mulholland said despite the sun making a rare appearance on Thursday midday, she was still alert as to what the next few days will bring.
“It’s a false sense of security - you see the blue sky and think that’s nice,” she said.
