A 29-year-old man is lucky to be alive after being brutally stabbed in the neck three times outside his home in Sydney’s northwest.

Police believe that father-of-one David Sidhom was at home with his family in their new home at The Ponds just after 9pm on Saturday night, when they were disrupted by noise coming from a group of teenagers partying at Ridgeline Park across the road.

It is understood that Mr Sidhom went outside to tell the group to keep their noise down when he was allegedly attacked by the group.

Quakers Hill Police Area Command Inspector Glen Jacobs said that the situation got out of hand quickly.

“It was a reasonable request and it’s escalated to this life-threatening incident,” he said.

During the scuffle it is alleged that at least one member of the group stabbed the 29-year-old three times in the neck from behind.

One wound was so deep that it narrowly missed his spine and windpipe, plunging close to 15cm into the young father’s neck.

NSW Ambulance Acting Inspector Joe Ibrahim said that the wounds could have easily been fatal.

“If he was too far forward it would have severed his trachea, his breathing tube,” he said.

“And if it was just a little bit to the left, he could have ended up as a quadriplegic.”

Mr Sidhom is understood to have staggered home, bleeding profusely from his neck, before his wife called triple-0.

He was treated at the scene before paramedics rushed him to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The 29-year-old’s front steps remained caked in his blood on Sunday morning, while a red-stained towel lay crumpled nearby.

He was recovering in hospital in a serious but stable condition on Sunday night.

Police were told that there were nine teenagers in the group, eight males and a female.

It is alleged that the group fled the scene in two cars.

Despite the combined efforts of the dog unit, PolAir and the Police Order and Riot Squad, officers are yet to track down any of the group members and are calling on anyone with information to come forward.

Neighbours said that teenagers and young adults regularly gather in the park, but this is the first violent act to occur in the area.
