A TOP Sydney crime boss and a young brash contract killer with a “Jekyll and Hyde” personality are behind up to six gangland murders in recent years, a special investigation by The Daily Telegraph can today reveal.

The young gun-for-hire — who this newspaper will refer to as The Kid for legal reasons — has become a notorious assassin willing to whack anyone for the right price.

On the streets sources claim the well-read psychopath may have up to 10 bodies to his name. He allegedly got his first taste of blood as a 19-year-old when he kicked to death a young man as part of a bikie feud. He was one of the youngest bikie chapter bosses in Sydney before “going freelance”.

His crime boss employer — whose alias is The Mercenary — is a drug-dealing kingpin described by hardened detectives as one of the most dangerous and evil men to walk the streets of Sydney.

He has spent millions of dollars on contract killings, which are normally conducted while he is overseas.

The Mercenary, who is behind a lot of the methamphetamine on our streets, has been the target of a number of police investigations involving all of the state’s major crime squads from the former Gang Squad to the Homicide Squad and Organised Crime Squad.

The Australian Crime Commission and NSW Crime Commission also have him in their sights.

The two men are almost polar opposites, with the confident youngster often testing the patience of the much older crime boss, who has a large family.

The kingpin likes to portray himself as an old school boss — not even sporting tattoos.

Yet the pair has a marriage of convenience when it comes to wiping out the opposition.

Their relationship is behind a remarkably quick rise to the very top of Sydney’s ganglands for both.

“The money at (The Mercenary’s) disposal is mind-boggling,” a senior police officer, who did not want to be named, told The Daily Telegraph. “He thinks nothing of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to get someone killed he simply doesn’t like.”

The motives for the murders vary.

Starting from at least as far back as 2014, The Daily Telegraph has been told some people have been killed for not paying debts while others had simply risen too high and had become a legitimate threat to his business or power.

There’s also a more personal reason for one of the murders — a jealous rage after the victim apparently became too close to a mistress.

The Mercenary started his operations around Western Sydney after immigrating to Australia about 20 years.

As he rose through the ranks, so did his taste.

He most recently has lived across a number of flashy properties in the eastern suburbs. He also regularly stays at up-market apartments on the Gold Coast, where he also has a significant drug trade.

The Kid is the son of law-abiding immigrants from a war-ravished country.

When he can, he even returns to his parents’ homeland to work in villages to help the poor.

“He is a Jekyll and Hyde type character,” a police source said. “You meet him and he is quietly spoken. He can be polite with doe eyes and long eyelashes. But then something happens and he just goes off.

“He joined a bikie gang very early ... but it was always just a stepping stone to setting himself up as a solo crime enterprise.’’

One recent hit was a cold-blooded revenge for the shooting of his mentor in 2013. He did this one without being paid.

Both The Mercenary and The Kid have been arrested in the past 18 months on serious criminal charges, but none of the charges relate to murder.

“Let’s just say their current situation makes it extremely unlikely they are able to continue with their illegal criminal activities,” a source said.
