Swim coach Kyle Daniels hit with 36 sex abuse charges

Detectives have laid a 36th charge on a North Shore swimming instructor after allegedly identifying his tenth child victim, a girl aged seven.

Detectives have laid a 36th charge on a North Shore swimming instructor after allegedly identifying his tenth child victim, a girl aged seven.

Former Knox Grammar School prefect Kyle James Henk Daniels, 20, was first charged on March 12 over allegations that he sexually touched two girls — aged six and eight — at Mosman Swim Centre in February.

Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad officers have spent more than a month examining the case, turning up new alleged victims.

Daniels, of Balgowlah, fronted court on March 20 where police laid 28 more charges including eight counts of sexual intercourse with child under 10, six counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years and 14 counts of indecent assault of a person younger than under 16.

On Wednesday, he was charged with another count of indecent assault of a person under 16 years.

“Police will allege in court the man sexually abused another girl — aged seven — on one occasion between February 2018 and June 2018,” police said in a statement.

Detectives are sifting through hours of CCTV footage from the swim centre as part of their investigation into Daniels.

He was previously granted strict bail over the alleged abuse of eight other students — aged five to 10 — during swimming lessons between June 2018 and March this year.

Daniels has denied the allegations through his lawyer.

“He strongly denies that any touching of these young girls was sexual in any way whatsoever,” defence barrister Todd Alexis SC told Manly Local Court on March 20.

Police have taken out a number of apprehended violence orders against Daniels since his arrest.

Police organised a forum for concerned parents but Mosman Swim Centre general manager Mike Conna said the community had not turned away from the business.

“Fewer than one per cent of our customers have left our program in recent weeks and some of them are now returning,” he said.

“We are humbled and grateful for the ongoing support we have received from our local swimming community.”

Daniels’ case is due back in Manly Local Court on May 8.
