Supermax inmate Bassam Hamzy linked to Brayden Dillon’s murder

ONE of the country’s most notorious inmates Bassam Hamzy allegedly helped organise the cover up of Sydney teen Brayden Dillon’s murder from inside Supermax. The Sunday Telegraph can reveal his links to at least three people already charged.

Solicitor arrested as investigation continue into the murder of Brayden Dillon

NOTORIOUS Supermax inmate Bassam Hamzy has been revealed as the man police suspect helped mastermind the cover-up following the bedroom assassination of teenager Brayden Dillon.

Homicide detectives also suspect the convicted murderer and Islamic extremist, who was behind bars at the time of the killing, was privy to the murder plot before it was carried out last year.

Hamzy, 39, who also founded the Brothers 4 Life gang from his jail cell, has been tied to at least three of the six people charged over Brayden’s execution so far.

While Hamzy has not been charged with any offence connected to Dillon’s death, police suspect he was passing information outside Goulburn’s Supermax prison as part of a wider plan to distance key players from the innocent teen’s death.

This is despite Hamzy being the state’s most supervised prisoner under the highest security classification available.

Hamzy was identified as a police target in the investigation after his name was mentioned in court last week.

Despite being in jail since he was 20, Hamzy has somehow managed to continuously beat the system in order to terrorise people in the outside world.

Exactly how he managed to get critical information out of jail and potentially wield influence over the criminal plot is a key area under investigation.

Brayden Dillon, 15, was asleep in his bedroom at his mother’s home in Glenfield, in Sydney’s southwest, in April last year when a gunman, alleged by police to be Craig, burst through the front door.

The gunman shooed Brayden’s mother away with his gun before creeping into her son’s room and shooting him at point blank range.

Police allege Brayden was killed in retribution after his older brother Joshua Dillon, 20, allegedly stabbed Adam Abu-Mahmoud, 18, during a brawl in Panania. Dillon has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Detectives allege Adam’s uncle Abdul Abu-Mahmoud — known as Abs — allegedly organised and financed the hit on Brayden as an act of revenge.

Abu-Mahmoud was charged with murder on October 18 after months spent skipping between Thailand, Lebanon and Jordan, during which time homicide detectives built a case against him.

It is understood police will allege Abu-Mahmoud is a close associate of Hamzy and his family, while Craig was a member of the Brothers for Life gang.

Abu-Mahmoud’s brother Mohamed Abu-Mahmoud, a 54-year-old property developer, is the latest person to be arrested as part of the Brayden murder investigation last week.

He faced charges of accessory after the fact to murder and perverting the course of justice last week.

It is alleged he organised for Craig to sign a false document distancing Abdul from the crime and obtained the brief of evidence outlining the police case against his brother.

He is accused of offering $40,000 to get Craig to falsify a document after Craig was charged with Brayden’s murder.

Detectives allege a “conduit” involved in the plot told police in April he had been to Cessnock Correctional Centre to get Craig to sign the document.

But the man denied knowing Craig was paid for it and thought the information in the document was true.

It is alleged the document was written by an associate of the Abu Mahmoud family outlining what Craig was meant to say.

During a bail application on Wednesday, his defence barrister told the court police had made reference to Brothers 4 Life, to Bassam Hamzy as its leader, and alleged “the shooter and my client are part of that organisation”.

Magistrate Sharon Freund said there were bold assertions in the police allegations but the lack of details meant she couldn’t assess the strength of the case.

Abu-Mahmoud, a successful property developer, was granted conditional bail.

A police spokeswoman refused to comment on the Hamzy allegations, stating the investigation was ongoing.
